Brewing Company at ZeroPak
The
Speakeasy Boys played the Virginia Brewing Company
at ZeroPak July 18th. ZeroPak is an old industrial
building that has been recently been renovated and now
includes a brewery, coffee company, habitat for humanity,
cultural center and more. Plus, they have a great stage

Boys play Shepherdstown's
3rd annual Street Fest
On
June 28th, the Speakeasy Boys played the 3rd annual Shepherdstown
Street Fest. The band played a 2-hour set in the afternoon to
a nice sized crowd, then later that evening played local pub,
the Mecklenberg Inn.

The
Speakeasy Boys played the Wine
& Arts Festival in Martinburg, WV, this past Memorial
Day weekend. The festival took place at the historic Boydville
Estate and featured West Virginia, vintners, artisans,

& Wool Fest
The
Speakeasy Boys played the Sheep & Wool Fest in West
Friendship, Maryland, on May 4th. The festival, held at
the Howard County Fairgrounds, attracts over 10,000 people

Boys play benefit for Mountain Justice
April
27th, the Speakeasy Boys played another benefit show for
Mountain Justice, a group fighting against improper and
unethical mountain top removal in the state of West Virginia.

Boys take an early Spring 'Break'
The
Speakeasy Boys took the month of March off to rest and recoup
before Spring kicks in. Their getting ready for lots of good
gigs coming up this year, plus the start of another album featuring
new original songs that the boys have been working on, so stay
tuned!

Boys head back to Cactus Flats
January
27th, the Speakeasy Boys played at Cactus Flats near Frederick,
MD. It was the first time the boys have been back there in sometime
and they played to a very welcoming crowd.

The
Speakeasy Boys rang in the New Year at their favorite
local pub, the Mecklenburg Inn, in downtown Shepherdstown
again this year (we did so good last year, they decided
to have us back!). This time, they were joined by special
guest and friend Chance McCoy on fiddle and banjo-ele.

29th (2007), the Speakeasy Boys played a special concert
at the War Memorial Building in Shepherdstown, WV, with
band 'The Fox Hunt'. The bands alternated sets, each playing
two, with a jam at the end.

September
20th (2007), the Speakeasy Boys played Watermelon Park
Fest in Berryville, VA. This was the boys third year at
the festival. Other acts included: Tony Rice and Peter
Rowan, Darrell Scott, Larry Keel, The Woodshedders, Furance
Mountain, The Hunger Mountain Boys, and the Carolina Chocolate

Boys to play 340 Roadhouse!
Beginning
March 20th (2007),
the Speakeasy Boys will be playing the 340 Roadhouse in
Charles Town, WV, every Tuesday from 8-10:30pm throughout
the spring and into the summer.
The
340 Roadhouse is a new venue located on the corner of
US 340 and Country Club Road between Harpers Ferry and
Charles Town, WV. They have a nice stage and sound system,
great food and drink, a dance floor with lights, it's
a non-smoking venue, and best of all admission is FREE

Boys release CD and put on fancy show!
The
Speakeasy Boys released their first CD and, to celebrate
its release, played a special show January 27th (2007)
at the Opera House in Shepherdstown, WV. The boys, dressed
in three piece suits, entertained the crowd with two sets
of music, the first of which they played the CD in its
entirety. The show was a big success and sold-out before
the doors even opened! Thanks to everyone that attended
and look for future shows like this.

The
Speakeasy Boys bring in the New Year!
The
Speakeasy Boys helped the good people of Shepherdstown ring
in 2007 by playing a New Year's show at their favorite local
venue, the Mecklenberg Inn. The boys played three sets of music
that included some old classics, a few new tunes, and some real
New Year's rockers! It was a good night indeed and a great way
to ring in the new year.

Boys in local paper again
A
photo of three of the members of the Speakeasy Boys was
featured in the Martinsburg paper, the Journal. The photo
was taken at the Shepherdstown Sunday Farmer's Market,
where the boys played on the street during the holiday
season.

November
6th (2006), the Speakeasy Boys played for one of The Nature
Conservancy's conferences, held in Sterling, Virginia; and November
19th, they were back at Cactus Flats in Frederick, Maryland.
October
2006 another busy month for the Speakeasy Boys
October
6th, the boys were back at the Mecklenburg Inn in Shepherdstown;
October 7th and 13th they played some private parties; October
14th was a double-header: the Pumpkin Fest at Ridgefield
Farm that afternoon and a private party that evening; October
21st they played a wedding; and October 22nd and 28th they were
back at the Pumpkin Fest at Ridgefield
Farm; and late night on the 28th (actually, early morning
the 29th) they played a Halloween party. Whew! Nine gigs in
one month; and they ain't even on tour.

Boys play Watermelon Park, featured in local paper
September
22nd and 23rd (2006),
the Speakeasy Boys played the Watermelon Park Fest in
Berryville, Virginia. This was the boys second time at
the Fest, which is getting bigger and better each year.
The Speakeasy Boys played last on Friday night, right
after Larry Keel, and mid-afternoon on Saturday.

September
8th (2006),
the boys were back at the Purple Fiddle in Thomas, West Virginia;
September 9th, they were at the Clear Springs Historical Society
annual gathering in Clear Springs, Maryland; and September 16th,
they played a benefit in Shepherdstown for the 'Save Faraway
Farms' campaign.
In
August 2006, the Speakeasy Boys were back at their favorite
local pub, the Mecklenberg Inn in Shepherdstown on the 4th;
the 5th, they were at a private party; the 13th, they were back
at Cactus Flats in Frederick; on the 18th, they played the Mystic
Acres music festival, which also featured The
Bridge and several others bands; and, on the 19th, they
were playing another private party, this one in the hills of
central PA.
Fireworks
and Bluegrass...
On
July 2nd (2006),
the Speakeasy Boys played in Clear Springs, MD, for the town's
Independence celebration. There were several bands, food, and
fireworks. The boys closed the evening with a long set of music,
followed by fireworks, then a 'grand finale' set.

Boys play second annual Shepherdstown Street Fest, featured
in local paper
The
Speakeasy Boys were one of the featured bands again at
the 2006 Shepherdstown Street Fest, which took place in
downtown Shepherdstown June 24th. The boys played a two
hour show during the middle of the day. Other acts including

Speakeasy
Boys record first album!
The
Speakeasy Boys recently hit the studio to work on their first
album. They recorded at Cabin
Studios, run by Les Thompson, former Mandolinist/Bassist
for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. In just under three days, they
recorded over 20 songs, including 11 originals. Look for a CD
and CD Release party soon!

The
Speakeasy Boys, along with the Easter Bunny and Jennifer

On
March 3rd (2006),
the Speakeasy Boys played a benefit concert for "V-Day"
(Vagina Awareness Day), a day to recognize and honor women in
general, but specifically those that have been sexually abused,
and to raise awareness about sexual abuse and its prevention.
The event was held at the Shepherdstown Train Station in Shepherdstown,
WV. All proceeds raised went to local Women's Shelters.

The
Speakeasy Boys played several good gigs in February 2006. On
February 3rd, they played the legendary Purple
Fiddle in Thomas, WV, again; the next night, February 4th,
they played at the Canaan Valley Resort; on February 12th, the
boys were back at Cactus Flats again in Frederick, MD; and,
February 24th, they played at the Mecklenberg in hometown Shepherdstown,
WV.

Chinese
New Year Show a Success!
The
Saturday, January 28th (2006) Chinese New Year, the "year
of the dog", show with the Speakeasy Boys and the
Woodshedders was a success! Gypsy Swing band the Woodshedders
kicked it off with a great set, followed by a set from
the Speakeasy Boys, and ending with an all-star jam with
both bands, Keith
Lovett, and several other friends. It was a great
night! Look for music from the event soon. Also, look
for another event like this in the near future.

Boys play Purple Fiddle December 23rd
Friday,
December 23rd (2005), the Speakeasy Boys played the Purple
Fiddle in Thomas, WV, again. The band, dressed in lots
of holiday garb, played two long sets to a small but joyful
crowd. Our good friend Keith
Lovett sat in on banjo for the second set

The
Romanians jam with the Speakeasy Boys
Friday,
December 9th (2005), the Speakeasy Boys played the Mecklenberg
Inn in Shepherdstown and were joined by their friends, the Romanians
- real-deal gypsy musicians from Romanian. Their band includes
two acordians, fiddle, clarinet, and a whole bunch of energy.
The Speakeasy Boys played a set, followed by the Romanians,
then they both played a set together. It was quite a night.

Saturday,
October 29th (2005),
the Speakeasy Boys played two celebratory gigs. They played
the Pumpkin Fest at Ridgefield Farm (pictured to your
left) in celebration of Halloween and harvest time, and
they played at the grand opening celebration of the new
Shepherdstown Branch of Premier Bank. |

The
Speakeasy Boys rock Watermelon Park!
Friday,
September 23rd (2005),
the Speakeasy Boys played the Watermelon Park Bluegrass
Festival in Berryville, WV. The boys were the last band
to play on Friday. They started at 10pm and played a little
over an hour. They were joined by 30 or 40 people in front
of the stage, who danced and boogied to their sounds.

Boy gets Married!?!?
Gail Parker , the Speakeasy Boy's harmonica player, also
known as "Shoeless" Gail Parker, tied the knot
with Sherry Oden this past September 17th. It was a nice
ceremony, that featured Gail in a tuxedo (is that a first?)
and in a pair of patented leather shoes that he wore all
day. Wow! The Blue Channel Cats (Gail's blues band) and
the Speakeasy Boys played the reception and after-party. |

Boy opens for the Beach Boys!
This past Labor Day, Matt Robinson, the Speakeasy Boy's
mandolin player, joined Native American artist Howard
Lyons to open for the Beach Boys in Niagara Falls,
New York. Matt plays guitar and mandolin in Howard's backup
band, the Good Medicine Band. Mike
Love, original lead singer for the Beach Boys, is the
guy in the center of the photo; the guy to Mike's left
(your right) is Howard Lyons; Matt is the blonde headed
guy on the far left.

On
August 20th, the Speakeasy Boys played the Clear Springs (Maryland)
Historical Society's 25th Anniversary party in Clear Springs,
Maryland. This was the boys first historical society gig and
it went over quite well; they even asked us back next year!
On August 21st, the boys played their second show at Cactus
Flats in Frederick, MD, which also went over well. And, on August
27th, the boys (or at least 5 of them) played the Fairmont Festival
in Fairmont, WV, where there they opened for the Davidson
Brothers.

Boy races in Demolition Derby!
Todd
Cotgreve, the Speakeasy Boy's saw and washboard player,
also known as "Evil", survived another Jefferson
County Fair Figure 8 Demolition Derby Race. This was Evil's
4th year to race in the event; in 2001, he came in 1st
place! While he didn't win this year, he sure tore up
the track and did his share of bashing. It was pure evil!

The
Speakeasy Boys continue to rock in July 2005. On the 15th, they
played the Mecklenberg Inn; on the 16th, they played the Shepherdstown
Street Fest (view photos HERE);
on the 22nd they played a benefit concert to Save Farawary Farm

for more info); the
23rd they played another private party; and the 30th they played
the Opequon Creek Music Fest, a local festival featuring several
local and regional bands.

the Shepherdstown Street Fest, a street fair to celebrate
Shepherdstown, WV, and the Contemporary American Theater
Festival, an event held annually in Shepherdstown. The

Speakeasy Boys played several good gigs in June 2005. On the
3rd, they played the Mecklenberg Inn; on the 4th, they played
a private wedding party in Harpers Ferry; on the 25th, they
played at Art Unlimited in Harpers Ferry; and, on the 26th,
they debuted at Cactus Flats in Frederick, MD, which was a big
hit! Look for the boys to play there again.
May
2005 was perhaps the Speakeasy Boys busiest and best month yet.
May 7th the boys rode in the annual Shepherdstown May Day Parade
(this time featuring the Speakeasy truck decorated with flowers,
limbs, & twigs); May 13th (Friday the 13th) they played
at Tony's in Shepherdstown and rocked the house; May 14th they
played a private party in Boonsboro, MD, and the 20th another
private party in Clear Springs, MD; May 21st they played at
the Folly (outside of Shepherdstown) for John Meeker's graduation
party; May 27th they played at the Purple
Fiddle in Thomas, WV, for their second time at that venue;
and May 29th they played a barn raising party in Woodstock,
VA. It was great month with a lot of great moments. Stay tuned

April
was a good month for the Speakeasy Boys. April Fool's Day (April
1st, 2005), the boys rocked the Mecklenberg Inn in Shepherdstown,
WV, yet again. April 15th, they played the Cliffside Inn, outside
of Harper Ferry, and Saturday, April 16th, they played EarthFest
at Shepherd University - a day-long festival on campus to celebrate
Earth Day.

The
Speakeasy Boys Adopt a Highway!
Dane
(local Packhorse Ford resident and good friend) adopted
3 miles of River Road with the Speakeasy Boys as part
of the Adopt a Highway Litter Control Program. Together,
they have committed to clean up and take care of the section
of River Road that runs from just outside of Shepherdstown
along the Potomac River and in front of Packhorse Ford.
They will hosting weekend clean ups ever other month,

March
26th (2005), the Speakeasy Boys rode in the Shepherdstown Easter
Parade. Similar to the Christmas Parade Shepherdstown, the town
host an Easter Parade each year that begins lots of locals out
to watch people parade down main street. The Speakeasy Boys
brought up the rear of the parade playing music in the back
of Scott's truck - this time decorated with bunnies and easter
eggs - and throwing candy to the kids.

The
boys played the Country Roads
in Hedgesville, WV, on Saint Patrick's Day (March 17th,
2005) was a hit! Casey Reese set the mood with his opening
set, which included several irish tunes, then the Speakeasy
Boys played two sets. There was lots of beer, shots, and

March
8th (2005), the Speakeasy Boys played the Dining Hall on Shepherd
College Campus for the college's West Virginia theme night.
February
11th (2005), the boys played the Cliffside
Inn
outside of Harpers Ferry, WV. This was their third time playing
the Cliffside and it was the best they ever sounded there, and
their playing was quite good too!

The
Speakeasy Boys rock the Purple Fiddle!
Saturday,
February 5th, the Speakeasy Boys played at the famous
Purple Fiddle
in Thomas, WV (near Canaan Valley). Starting around 8:30pm
and ending around 1:30am, they set the record for the
longest show played at the Purple Fiddle. It was a great
show that had everyone up dancing by the end of the night,
including Purple Fiddle owner Kate (who says she never

February
1st (2005), the Speakeasy Boys played an hour long set of music
broadcast live over WSHC Radio from Shepherd College's Reynold's
Hall auditorium. It was the college's first live broadcoast
and the Speakeasy Boys second time being on the air.
